My special needs grandson, Aaron, now 17 and severely autistic, non-verbal, teen who displays many maladaptive behaviors, especially when he’s in pain, was very difficult to diagnose!
Most recently we were surprised to learn why/what was wrong, when he started lashing out and striking at his ear and the side of his face. It took us close to 4 weeks to narrow the cause down to severe tooth pain. After a very challenging procedure to remove 4 wisdom teeth, plus two more teeth, he is finally pain free.
We would like to commend the team at Tyler Oral Facial Surgery (Tyler, TX) for their professionalism and understanding during this time. When your special child becomes a teenager, remember "wisdom teeth" as a possible source of behavior problems.
Here is our letter of commendation to the surgical team ...
Tyler Oral Facial Surgery
Kourt Chatelain, DMD, FACS
805 Turtle Creek Drive
Tyler, TX 75701
This letter is being sent to thank you, from the very depth of everyone’s heart, for your recent treatment of our 17-year-old, severely autistic, non-verbal, teen who displays many maladaptive behaviors. From the moment your office was contacted, up to a week later, everything went amazingly well. In a matter of days your office scheduled an urgent appointment, obtained approval from Medicaid, and completed the extraction of 4 wisdom teeth, one tooth located in the sinus cavity, as well as tooth # 3 which was cracked containing a cavity and exposed nerve.
When we arrived, it was evident that you and your staff were ready for us. The paperwork was pre-submitted, insurance was approved, the anesthesiologist Jerry Vinson was present, the room was ready, and the surgeon, Dr. Chatelain, was at hand. Jerry Vinson met us in the lobby where we were able to discuss the best treatment option for sedation. After this, a brief discussion on procedures, implementation, and an exit plan were discussed based on what was best. The entire procedure took about 45 minutes and was flawlessly executed.
Even after surgery, your office continued to provide support to the client, who didn’t know or understand that he just had 6 teeth removed. Your expertise in oral facial surgery is unsurpassed. The knowledge, training, and compassion, that you and your staff showed was visible and heart felt from beginning to end.
It should be especially noted that Nurse Lindsey Smith was very communicative during the whole process from beginning to end. It was definitely appreciated and did not go unnoticed or without gratitude from everyone involved.
I highly commend you and your staff for your superior services and we give you the highest favorable recommendation allowed.
The A Team,
Amy, Kitty, Gordon, and Elizabeth
